I was born on December 1st, 1980 in Greenfield Park (somewhere near Longueuil and Montreal), Quebec. I did not spend much time there. My father is in the military therefore I moved around a lot. From what I remember I spent maybe a year or so in Greenfield Park before having to move to Washington D.C. My sister was born here and apparently the first sign of my artistic talent was manifested there through markings all over the white walls of our very white, 3 storey house. After Washington D.C. we moved around within the province of Quebec, from St. Hubert to Val-Cartier. Later on, around 1992, I ended up in Kingston, Ontario. I was quite the trouble maker, but found my expressive outlet through making art. I had won a few awards and worked for free of charge for the school library. After spending two years in Kingston my father was posted to Belgium. He served there for five years. I spent four years in Belgium and then one year in Italy. In 2000, we all moved back to Kingston, Ontario. I stayed there for a short while and then moved yet again to Ottawa. After university I got the itch, the itch to find a change in scenery. So, I decided to backpack in Australia. Today I have both feet firmly placed in Ottawa. I work at the Canadian Institute of Planners by day and work in my private studio by night. Australia October 25th, 2004 – February 27th, 2005 I had backpacked all over Australia, from the Northern Territories to Melbourne, up and down the East Coast. From the sunny beaches to the dry, red desert. Along the way I documented all of my experiences, my travels, my encounters, and everything else around me in the book that I am currently working on. This book-in-progress contains memoirs, debates, artistic influence, and travel. Italy 1999-2000 I had directed the musical component of an art/fashion show while studying in Italy. I was also one of five live stage painters. I loved Italy. There was nothing about it that wasn’t beautiful or inspiring. I painted outdoors on bridges close to the Piazza. The school I attended was the Canadian College Italy in Lanciano. It was a beautiful school that offered rich education in Italian culture, renaissance art, and classical civilization. Belgium 1994-1998 My artistic career was given an enormous surge. I was entered into competitions, I attended workshops in Oberwesel, Germany, and was published in a local, military magazine for the arts. I was ahead in my art classes at school and was given a lot of one on one instruction by my instructor Mr. Root, who was also a painter. I taught an arts and crafts class for ten year olds for the American Summer Fun program at the local Youth Centre and participated in several design projects for local events. During my four year stay in Belgium I was able to tour and visit some of the most precious artistic and historical treasures left behind by humankind’s existence. I discovered, amongst several things, l’Arc de Triomphe in Paris, where my family name is carved. |
